You can’t really do anything if you log into Fortnite right now — there’s just a black hole. For a brief period of time, however, that black hole had a series of numbers appear above the event horizon: 11, 146, 15, and 62. What the heck does any of it mean?
There are a few theories out there, but the funniest one has to be the one related to Google Maps. If you input those numbers as coordinates, you get the image at the top of this post. Fans are interpreting this to be a shout-out to a meme known as the crab rave, which you can view below.
Seems like a perfect reference, given that Epic Games must be having a lot of fun watching people’s baffled reactions right now. It’s not every day that a game actively stops you from playing it on purpose, after all.
Update: An hour later, the numbers have continued. As of this writing, the new digits are 87, 14, 106, 2, and 150. We don’t know if these should be considered a second set that signify something different than the first set, or if all the numbers are a part of a larger code. It seems likely that the number broadcasts will continue until the game comes back, however.
There’s more. Epic Games has also hidden a little Easter egg that may help bored players pass the time until the new season comes into effect.
If you press a specific series of buttons that will be familiar to any retro game enthusiast, a small, Galaga-esque mini-game will pop up. Once initiated, you will become a pizza who is tasked with defeating falling Durr Burgers. Cute.
The full Konami Code is up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start, and those button inputs will be dependent on your Fortnite platform of choice.
As of this writing, there’s no telling when the battle royale portion of Fortnite will come back. Instead, Epic Games has issued a total blackout, both within the game and across social media, where posts have been deleted. It’s a move that has got everyone talking, and that’s particularly impressive given how negative the reaction online was for season 10.
